Do you know why Lord Vishnu took the Vamana avatar?
King Bali, after performing the Vishwajit Yagna, acquired a golden chariot and set out to wage war on Amaravati, the capital of the gods.
Indra, the king of the gods, realized that defeating someone who fought from this golden chariot was impossible. Knowing this, Indra fled into the forest with his army.
Without even fighting a battle, King Bali captured Amaravati.
Indra's mother, Aditi, pleaded with Lord Vishnu to help her son regain Amaravati.
Lord Vishnu agreed and said, "I will fulfill your wish by being born as your son."
After some time, he was born as a son to Aditi. Embracing a life of celibacy, he set out to beg for alms.
When King Bali saw the young Vamana who had come seeking alms, he asked him what he desired.
Vamana then replied, "I only need three paces of land."
King Bali agreed and told Vamana to measure out the land wherever he wanted.
Accepting this, Vamana covered the entire earth with his first step and the sky with his second step. He then asked Bali to show him a place for his third step.
King Bali realized he had nothing left to offer and humbly requested, "Please place your third foot on my head."
Agreeing, Vamana placed his third step on Bali's head and pushed him down to Sutala Loka (a nether world).
Thus, Vamana used alms to reclaim Amaravati and gave it back to Indra.

బలి చక్రవర్తి విశ్వజిత్ యాగంలో సంపాదించుకున్న బంగారు రథం లో అమరావతి పై యుద్ధానికి బయలుదేరాడు.

ఈ బంగారు రధం, మీద నిలుచుని యుద్ధం చేసేవారిని ఓడించడం అసాధ్యం అని తెలుసుకున్న ఇంద్రుడు తన సైన్యంతో అడవిలోకి పారిపోయాడు.
బలి చక్రవర్తి యుద్ధం చేయకుండానే, అమరావతిని కైవసం చేసుకున్నాడు.
ఇంద్రుడి తల్లి అదితి, శ్రీమహావిష్ణువుని ఇంద్రుడికి అమరావతిని ఇప్పించమని వేడుకుంది.
శ్రీమహావిష్ణువు తధాస్తు, నేను నీ కడుపున పుట్టి నీ కోరిక నెరవేరుస్తా అని చెప్పాడు.
కొన్నాళ్ళకి అదితికి పుత్రుడిగా జన్మించాడు. బ్రహ్మచర్యం ధరించి బిక్ష యాటనకు బయలుదేరాడు.
బలి చక్రవర్తి, బిక్ష కోసం అక్కడికి వచ్చిన వామనుడుని చూసి, నీకేం కావాలో కోరుకోమన్నాడు.
అప్పుడు వామనుడు తనకు కేవలం మూడు అడుగుల స్థలం చాలు అని అన్నాడు.
సరే అని అంగీకరించిన బలి చక్రవర్తి నీకు ఎక్కడ కావా లో కొలిచి తీసుకోమన్నాడు.
సరే అని వామనుడు ఒక పాదంతో భూమిని, రెండవ పాదముతో ఆకాశాన్ని కప్పేశాడు, ఇప్పుడు నా మూడవ పాదమునకు స్థలము చూపించు అని బలి చక్రవర్తి ని అడిగాడు.
అప్పుడు బలి చక్రవర్తి ఇవ్వడానికి ఇంక నా దగ్గర ఏమీ లేదు, మీరు మీ మూడవ పాదము నా తల మీద ఉంచమని వేడుకున్నాడు.
ఒప్పుకున్న వామనుడు తన మూడో పాదముని బలి చక్రవర్తి తల మీద పెట్టి సుతల లోకానికి తొక్కేశాడు.
ఇలా వామనుడు బిక్షం ఎత్తి సంపాదించిన అమరావతిని ఇంద్రుడికి ఇచ్చాడు.
