In today's video, I turn some ball-point and fountain pens from Pau Amarello, or yellowheart, which is my first time ever working with this wood species. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from this wood when I first started out; it really just reminded me of pine, but perhaps a little more yellow and vibrant. However, after I applied the finish to the first pen, and I saw that stunning chatoyancy "pop", my jaw hit the floor. I don't know if I just happened to pick up a really nice board, or if my results are typical of this species, but frankly, "yellowheart" doesn't seem to do this wood any justice! None at all! To my eyes, it's more gold than yellow, like a wooden variant of fool's gold or something. And for that reason, I am hereby calling this wood "King's Wood" for the royal symbolism it brings to mind every time that I look at it :)

What's that? A novice woodworker isn't allowed to assign new names to wood species? Awe, shucks. Oh well. I guess it'll just have to be an unofficial nickname :D

Anyways, if it wasn't already obvious, I love this wood, and I love how it turned out with these pen kits. Definitely will be doing more with this species in the future!
