In the spring males will produce loud throaty sounds to warn others to stay off their territory sometimes referred to as an Okalee Song, also they make loud whistling sounds. Male and female Red-winged Blackbirds will make a variety of chirps and chips to get the attention of other birds.

Male Red-winged Blackbirds have dark black feathers, red and yellow on their shoulders. Red-winged blackbirds are energetic and make a lot of noise, chirping and calling the other birds.
