The main objective of the Black Soldier Fly project is to set up a replicable and scalable farming system that effectively deals with solid organic waste, supports livelihoods, and enhances food security in Mukuru.
The project will also build awareness of the importance of proper solid waste management.
The Black Soldier Fly Project will allow farmers to shift to a more reliable, safe, and affordable source of animal protein and organic fertilizer (frass) while providing urban areas with an efficient solid waste management option.
AMT proposes to set up 10 pilot black soldier fly production facilities in Mukuru in 2024/2025.
