A passion motivated Martin Luther, and the other reformers, to promote the return of Christ’s Body to its only reliable foundation, the Scriptures. But like Luther’s predecessors, the leaders of the organized church of that time, would have none of it. They enjoyed having the “shade pulled” over their “deeds of darkness.” They, like many today, were convinced that it is the Light of Christ, shining through the Scriptures, that breeds the destructive forces in our culture. When in actuality, it is the piercing light of God’s Truth which directs us to the areas in need of reform. However, we understand that it is actually the Word of God that procures our very salvation. (i.e. Romans 1:16; Romans 10:17; Hebrews 4:12) It is through this vehicle that our hearts are convicted by the Law of God, while at the same time captured by the Grace of God through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Bible is more than just ink on a page; it is literally and substantially a vehicle of the grace of God to us. It is, as Romans 1:16 declares, “…for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes…”
