Leopold I. von Anhalt-Dessau (3. Juli 1676 in Dessau - 7. April 1747 ebenda) was a Generalfeldmarschall in the Königlich Preußische Armee; he is known as "der alte Dessauer". This march bears his name since in the early 1700s - thanks to Leopold I. von Anhalt-Dessau - it became part of the prussian repertory of military marches.
The video fragments are taken from the german Film "Fridericus" from 1937, which is based on the novel of the same name written by Walter von Molo in 1918. In this Film the son of Leopold I. von Anhalt-Dessau, the Generalfeldmarschall Moritz von Anhalt-Dessau, plays a central role alongside Friedrich II; this video was made to pay homage to both of those great prussians.
