This is one of few railways in East Anglia I have failed to visit until now. This 15 inch gauge, 9 mile long railway cuts through the best of the Norfolk countryside to reach the heart of the Broads. The railway is primarily used by visitors as transport to Wroxham, where they can either hire or take a small ride out on the boats. As seen in the video, it is possible to cycle or walk the entire length of the line, with a path running parallel to the railway. Brampton, Buxton and Coltishall, on the day of my visit, were request stops only, and can be used to board the train by phoning the Bure Valley Railway on the day or booking in advance online.

The train runs at an impressive speed for a Narrow Gauge railway, almost giving the feel of a standard gauge fast express. An adult return ticket for the day was a reasonable £19 when booked in advance, and a time of the out and return journey service you require was needed. Unfortunately, there was no option for an all-day rover ticket and seats were alotted by the railway. This means there should be minimal chance of sharing a small compartment with other visitors. The railway also boasts a well-stocked model shop attached to the main gift shop selling N, TT, 009, OO and O gauge models.

This is without a doubt a tourist-orientated railway but gives anybody the chance to see some stunning scenery with the added smell of good old steam traction! My only critique of on the railway is a lack of a museum; as this railway is part of the old M&GN network and runs on the old track bed, it would have been interesting to obtain some insight into the story of the line and how it came to be the beautiful railway we see today. The staff all seem very friendly, very helpful, and made me feel very welcome.

Thank you for watching.
