In recent months, I've demoed all of Fane's brand new low-wattage drivers - the A30, F25 and F30 - and they're all wonderful things. But underneath all of those videos, one question has come up time and time again: how do they compare to the equivalent Celestions? There's speakers in both lineups that are clearly aimed at the same areas of the market - so, what are the similarities and differences?

Today, we'll be finding out. For the two ceramic speakers, the pairings are fairly obvious - the F25 & G12M are both medium-magnetted 25W speakers; and the F30 & G12H are both heavy-magnetted 30W speakers. I've got the Celestion Heritage editions of both of those speakers here - said to be the best reproductions of the vintage drivers you've ever been able to buy (according to Celestion, anyway!) and were handmade in England. So no big surprises there.

But for the A30, there's three Celestion Alnicos that I could realistically compare it to. In terms of wattage, the Ruby is closest at 35W...but that's a very dark sounding speaker, so doesn't really compare well to other speakers as it always sounds lacking in top end. So that leaves the Blue & Gold. I'm going to use the Gold, as it's the most similar to the A30 tonally, and they're also both aimed at the mid-powered combo market primarily. So that makes the most sense.

So...with some different guitars and various British-voiced amplifiers, we're going to see how the Fane and Celestion philosophies compare to each other. This isn't a clickbaity 'WHICH WILL WIN?!' type video - not at all. This is just a pure, simple, all-things-equal comparison between these two legends of British speakers.
