A run through of where to find protein sequences of homologs at NCBI, how to get their fasta file, do a quick pairwise alignment, find areas of conservation, and compare that to protein structure. I also discuss other information available via the NCBI's Gene database including expression, interactions and phenotypes. The example used is PAX6 and how this information helps us understand the function of this gene..
