In this video I show how to make a large fancy gift box from walnut with maple splines, and a maple tray. The box is designed to have the wood grain on the outside wrap continuously around the four sides of the box (wrapped grain). The box, including the lid, is made from one long piece of walnut lumber.

The dimensions of the box are approximately 13 inches long, 8 inches deep, and 8 inches tall. The maple tray is approximately 1 and a half inches deep, and is held up by four protruding walnut dowels inside of the box.

The hinges are brass hinges made by Brusso hardware. The lid is a floating solid walnut panel glued at only two points to allow for expansion and contraction along the depth direction of the box. The bottom is walnut veneered quarter inch plywood.
