This video covers character and string types in Matlab, but also digresses significantly into the ASCII encoding and number systems such as binary and hexadecimal. All the code works perfectly in Octave with brief and minor exceptions such as the table function, different function names for reading and writing to file, and displaying of some warnings in Octave that don't appear in Matlab. ALL of these differences are mentioned in the video at the points where they occur.
