Redlands Bicycle Classic - Stage 5 (Sunset Circuit)
2 short course crit laps, ride to Sunset Circuit, 12 laps of Sunset Circuit, 5 short course crit laps
CRUCIAL: racers need to complete just 4 laps of Sunset without being lapped/pulled by officials to get an official finish and a GC time

Stage 5 of the Redlands Bicycle Classic. The rain that was forecasted to start near the end of the stage started pouring down about 3 minutes into the race. This created an EXTREMELY nervous bunch, as you can tell by all the slipping, sliding and moving around. Having crashed pretty hard the day before in the crit, I wanted to take zero risks on this stage and my performance definitely suffered as a result.

I was in good position in the run in to the Sunset Circuits, but I was not willing to push unnecessary risk in the fast/twisty/slick first part of the climb. I ended up just a few wheels off the main bunch, and ended in the main groupetto for the day, getting pulled with 5 laps to go. Not great, but I stayed on two wheels the whole day and was finally able to get a GC time at Redlands!
