It's June 1992, and Providence Mayor Vincent "Buddy" Cianci Jr. is angry.

"They have to give us something back for it!" he said.

Outlet Communications has just announced the sale of the Broadcast House studios to Johnson and Wales University.

Outlet intends to downsize and move WJAR-TV to an industrial park in Cranston, but Cianci doesn't want the property taken off the city's tax rolls.

"So, they either better convince Channel 10 to locate here in the city of Providence, or we're not going to be as friendly as we used to be," Cianci said at a news conference.

One never wanted to get on Buddy Cianci's bad side, but in the end, Johnson and Wales did centralize its campus downtown.

And Channel 10 did move to Cranston.
