Rounding off a full Talents week, this year’s “Secrets“ theme becomes once again tangible in an open talk with the musicians and composers Ryūichi Sakamoto and Carsten Nicolai, the latter better known as Alva Noto. Turning the stage into a field of experimentation and collaboration, they take the audience on a journey into the many layers of sound and space. Recent solo projects include Sakamoto's compositions for Call Me by Your Name and Alva Noto's minimal music for Iñárritu's lauded VR-experience Carne Y Arena. Having recorded their first common project in 2002, the two reached a collaborative peak with the soundtrack of The Revenant. Whenever they join forces, the entanglement of Sakamoto's piano compositions with the digital replenishments by Alva Noto creates a force field between subtle tensions and delicate grooves.
