uses of some items that I brought

wicker basket

Let me tell you about this gem I picked up – a wicker basket, not just any basket, but a kitchen essential! Its intricately woven design not only adds a rustic charm to my kitchen but also serves a practical purpose. When it comes to serving hot dosas and idlies, this basket is a game-changer. The gaps inbetween allow steam to escape, keeping the food fresh and retaining its warmth. Plus, placing these traditional dishes in the wicker basket adds a touch of authenticity to the dining table, elevating the entire dining experience. It's both functional and aesthetically pleasing, a must-have for any kitchen!

wicker plate and wooden plate ( Maand Kurpon)

These two kitchen staples, the wicker plate and wooden plate, are like a dynamic duo, each serving multiple purposes steeped in tradition. In the days of our grandmothers, these were indispensable items in every kitchen, and for good reason.

Firstly, they're the perfect pair for draining rice from the cooking pot. While modern steel and metal strainers may have taken over, nothing quite compares to the texture of rice drained using these timeless pieces.

But their utility doesn't stop there. Picture this: a stack of neer dosas, Mangalore's beloved delicacy, cooling off on the wooden plate, ready to be folded and devoured.

And when the curry's bubbling hot, these plates double up as lids, their gaps allowing steam to escape, preventing sogginess while keeping the flavors intact.

They're also ideal for serving up Mangalorean rice preparations, adding a touch of tradition to every meal.

Oh, and a pro tip: remember to occasionally soak them in water for longevity and to rid them of any accumulated residue. These aren't just kitchen tools; they're an ode to our culinary heritage, versatile and timeless.
And here's a tip straight from my grandmother's playbook: during the rainy season, she would place these plates out in the front yard, letting them soak in the nourishing rainwater. It wasn't just about getting them clean; it was about seasoning them in nature's own way, infusing them with a hint of earthy freshness that enhanced the flavors of every dish they touched. It's these little rituals passed down through generations that make these plates not just kitchen tools, but cherished heirlooms, carrying stories and memories within their very fibers.
