My father, Bernie Warren, was an avid collector of insulators since my earliest memories. Some of my fondest memories involve he and I, “chasing insulators,” in Alaska, Canada, the “lower 48 states”, New Zealand and France. He had been a member of the National Insulator Association since its early days, and even served on the NIA Board in the early 90’s. He was a school principal here in Alaska and retired from the Anchorage School District in 1984, at the young age of 52, allowing him to travel and pursue his passion for glass insulators extensively in the following years. I recognized years ago that my father’s passion for the hobby was not only about the glass itself, but equally about the friendships and bonds he made through hobby with fellow collectors and enthusiasts. About 8 years ago, as his age progressed and his health prevented him from traveling in the manner which he was accustomed to, he decided to sell the bulk of his collection. Knowing this, a close friend of mine offered to capture his story on video before the opportunity was lost. This is his story. I hope you enjoy the video and share his enthusiasm for the hobby as much as he did!
