Historia Katedry Oliwskiej sięga roku 1186 roku kiedy to książę pomorski Sambor I (syn Subisława I) sprowadził do Oliwy cystersów, którzy założyli tu opactwo. Kościół w obecnym kształcie zbudowano w XIV w. po wielkim pożarze, który zniszczył pierwszy murowany kościół i zabudowania klasztorne.
Gotycka katedra posiada barokowe wyposażenie wnętrza, w tym ołtarz główny, dwa kapliczne i 23 ołtarze boczne, barokową ambonę. Katedra zasłynęła wspaniałymi organami, które początkowo posiadały 5100 piszczałek, 83 głosy i 3 manuały. Są dziełem Jana Wulfa, który został mnichem i pracował nad nimi 25 lat (1763–1788). Po kilku przebudowach dodaniu pozytywu i połączeniu z organami chórowymi dysponują dziś 96 głosami, 5 manuałami i pedałem oraz trakturą elektro-pneumatyczną. The history of the Oliwa Cathedral dates back to 1186, when the Pomeranian prince Sambor I (son of Subisław I) brought the Cistercians to Oliwa, who founded an abbey here. The church in its present form was built in the 14th century after a great fire destroyed the first brick church and monastery buildings.
The Gothic cathedral has baroque interior furnishings, including the main altar, two chapel altars and 23 side altars, a baroque pulpit. The cathedral became famous for its magnificent organ, which initially had 5,100 pipes, 83 voices and 3 manuals. They are the work of Jan Wulf, who became a monk and worked on them for 25 years (1763–1788). After several reconstructions, the addition of a positive and connection to the choir organ, they now have 96 voices, 5 manuals and a pedal and electro-pneumatic tracker.
