This week, LPB brings you a patriotic episode of  Louisiana The State We’re In, honoring our nation’s Independence Day.  We start with a tribute to the Red, White, and Blue as LPB’s Karen LeBlanc travels to Lafayette for a Flag Day ceremony held by Acadiana Veterans Honor Guard members. As flags wave across the country,  learn about the protocol tied to all the pomp and circumstance.

The future looks bright for Louisiana’s solar energy industry as private and public partnerships work to power this renewable energy source. In this week’s Louisiana Speaks, Camille Manning-Broome, President and CEO of the Center for Planning Excellence, gives us a progress report on statewide solar energy efforts and shares news of a grant program bringing solar power to low-income households.

In Good News Louisiana, we take a stroll down Main Street to learn about a state program strengthening the communities and economies of small towns across Louisiana.  LPB’s Karen LeBlanc traveled to Franklin for the city’s 40th anniversary celebration of Main Street Louisiana. Franklin is one of the first towns to participate in the program that has revitalized aging buildings and fostered many new small businesses while honoring history and heritage.

On July 11th at 7 p.m., LPB will broadcast a two-hour special highlighting events from the 2024 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame weekend, recently held in Natchitoches. This week, LPB’s Karen LeBlanc takes us behind the scenes to meet Chris Brown, the official portrait artist of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. The former professional baseball player turned artist paints portraits of the inductees in vivid colors, a remarkable feat considering that the artist is colorblind.
