On Wednesday afternoon, crews swiftly tackled the aftermath of a freight train's partial derailment near Trent, Texas, in western Taylor County on April 24th, 2024. Approximately two dozen cars from a Union Pacific train had derailed.

By midday, the majority of the box cars had been cleared from the tracks, which were undergoing inspection and necessary repairs.

Sergeant Mardi Hargis, the public information officer for the Taylor County Sheriff's Department, stated that the derailment occurred about half a mile west of Exit 264 for Noodle Dome Road, and was reported to their office at 7:44 p.m. the previous Tuesday. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or hazardous materials.

Hargis attributed the derailment to straight-line winds that were passing through the area at the time.

In Sweetwater, Avenger Field, as reported by the National Weather Service, experienced wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour in the hour leading up to the incident.
