Happy Saturday!
Enjoy a short video of the Chinpals having their weekend dust baths! 🥰

We are absolutely going to do a care video on dust bathing, but here are a few answers to question you might have now:

1. Remember that chins can’t take water baths (or get wet in general) because it can 1) put their bodies in shock 2) cause them to grow mold or fungus.
2. Wild chinchillas bathe in volcanic ash to clean, this dust is meant to replicate it. It’s a natural instinct, but sometimes young chins or chins never given dust baths need to be taught or helped!
3. Dust baths should be offered a couple times a week and not left in the cage because it can dry out their skin! (And they’ll likely pee on it)
4. We like Oxbow Poof most as a dust brand!
5. Dust is an awesome way to help two chinchillas bond - bathing together helps them smell alike and develop a positive association with one another. (It’s also a great distraction if they seem to not stop mounting each other during introductions!)
6. And yes - they LOVE it!
