Joseph Zbukvic (Zagreb, 1952) is one of the most outstanding contemporary watercolourists and one of the most important masters of our time, although his parents tried to discourage him from his interest in art as a young man and he spent some time studying languages and literature at university. Political instability in Croatia forced the Zbukvic family to emigrate to Australia in 1970. Once settled in Melbourne, he saw the opportunity to chase his artistic career, graduating in Art from Deakin University in 1974. His enormous success is due to his ability for transforming any theme into something sensitive, lyrical, atmospheric and poetic.
