Jegathasan Pushpangathan remembers struggling in school and being called lazy. He made it through ITE (Institute of Technical Education) and is now working as a hotel F&B executive, but as a literacy test showed, at age 40, he's only got the reading level of a 6-year-old.

He signed up for the CNA programme Write of Passage because his inability to read and write was holding him back from advancing in his career. That's when he was assessed and told that he had dyslexia - a learning difficulty that affects the language processing part of the brain, and makes it tough for him to decipher words.

Over 12 weeks, he and other Singaporeans who couldn't read or write for various reasons were given free one-to-one intensive coaching. Jega was delighted with his progress - but at the end of the period, he found himself stuck because he couldn't afford to continue the specialised lessons. That's when CNA viewers who were moved by his story chipped in on a fundraising campaign to help him continue on his path of hope.
