"Pippi Longstocking" was a 1997 animated movie based on the 1945 book series of the same by Astrid Lindgren.

The character had been adapted numerous times in live-action form, but this was the first, and still only, fully animated theatrical release featuring the character.

The movie was the first step in an attempt to reintroduce a beloved classic character to a new generation of children, but turned out to be a massive financial failure, marking the first step in the character's descent into anonymity for years to come.

Was it warranted? Or does this movie deserve a second opinion in the eyes of history?

(Note: Due to extensive copyright-related issues, the video is presented with still images rather than clips. The original retrospective audio remains unchanged. Thank you for your understanding and we'll get back to video clips in the next retrospective.)
