We're going to walk through playing a simple piece together, but what I really want you to take away is this process for learning things:

1. Count out all your rhythms.

2. Name all your notes IN RHYTHM.

3. Play all the fingerings on your instrument while you name your notes IN RHYTHM.

Finally...

4. Try to play the piece.
-Slowly
-In small sections if necessary.

5. As you get comfortable start practicing longer sections closer to the real tempo of the piece until you can play the whole thing at full speed.


You may be tempted to skip steps, but usually it will result in you wasting tons of time. If you just go through these steps patiently you can learn anything with enough time and effort. So go forth and make music!
