Kala Gujran (called 'Kala' pre-partition) is a town in Tehsil Jhelum, Punjab, Pakistan. Kala Gujran was a village before partition and was home to significant Hindu and Sikh community, along with Muslims. Pratition of Indian Subcontinent saw departure of Hindus and Sikhs from Kala Gujran, but, their stories and memories remain with the generation of people who saw partition. Sadly, less and less people of that generation remain with us with the passage of time.

I embarked upon the task of finding someone from that generation to tell the stories of Hindus and Sikhs of Kala Gujran, which was made possible with the help of some dear friends. During my limited time in Kala Gujran, I tried to record the stories of Hindus and Sikhs on request of a friend from India, Mr. Harshman Singh, whose ancestors once lived in Kala Gujran.

I could only record a fraction of the history of Hindus and Sikhs and the pre-partition history of Kala Gujran.

Aftab Qureshi sahab is a very humble and forthcoming personality who agreed to an interview with alacrity.
