We all have natural preferences and styles that suit our personalities and experiences. No one style is best, and all preceptors use a variety of styles. One of the challenges of teaching the health professions learner is that we place ourselves in a close working relationship with learners who have differing teaching styles and preferences. Thoughtful self-assessmant of our styles and preferences, as well as determining the preferences of our learners will allow both to stretch their abilities resulting in improved clinical and professional skills and ultimately a more productive and enjoyable rotation for the learner....and preceptor.
