The Stalls is the only series of 4 paintings in the artistic heritage of the Flemish artist Frans Snyders (1579–1657). In the monumental ensemble of The Stalls, Frans Snyders embodied the Flemish dream of the Golden Age, using the genre of still-life. It reflects the traditional topics of the four elements and the five senses, as well as the new ideas of the 17th century. The paintings were intended for Jacques van Offem’s mansion in Brussels.
