This is the LONG LASTING way to hang string lights and is still easy and straightforward to do.

Never put too much tension on your electric wire - this is what happens when you hang string lights at a long distance without extra support. The constant pulling on the wire will eventually short the wire and you'll have to re-hang a new strand. Best case scenario, your lights will work but they'll start to sag.

Instead, just hand a wire across your yard and tie the string lights to the wire with black zip ties. Even better yet, use a kit like the one linked below that has the right wire, zip ties, hooks, and wire clamps - really everything you need to professionally install your own exterior string lights.
