In this video, we show you how to differentiate cutlery made of real silver (mostly with a hallmark of 925 or 800) from cheap silver (90, 100, etc.) and completely worthless material with our precious metal testing device GoldScreenPen. Especially on flea markets and in the recycling business, the GoldScreenPen can be of great use for this purpose.

5:35 Summary

By the way, there are two particularities that can occur with silver cutlery. It can happen that there are hallmarks with the number 12-16. These indicate an older measurement system for silver purity: 14 Lot (the German name for this unit) correspond to an 875 silver. Cutlery with this hallmark should therefore consist of precious real silver. Apart from that, you can also find hallmarks saying ARG 800, AMZ 800, Super Inox 800. These hallmarks can include fakes claiming to be an 800 silver but really being made of silver-plated stainless steel. These can be detected quickly with the GoldScreenPen.
