How ARMY Protect Jin of BTS as a 2024 Paris Olympic Torchbearer

On July 15, Jin of BTS carried the torch for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Crowds of BTS fans, known as ARMY, gathered to catch a glimpse of the star, waiting for hours before he showed up. Fans held signs handwritten in Korean saying, "Welcome, Seok-jin, I Love You," "Run, Seok-jin," and "Good luck, Seok-jin," along with South Korean national flags. Kim Seok-jin is Jin's birth name.

Sarah, 22, who arrived early in the morning with her two sisters, said, "I came early because I thought there would be a lot of fans," adding, "This is my first time seeing a BTS member in person." She expressed her excitement, stating, "I'm so happy that Jin has finished his military service and returned to us. It’s rare for him to come to France, so I'm thrilled to see him in person."

Amanda, 30, originally from Vietnam and currently working in London, also traveled to France the day before upon hearing the news of Jin’s torch relay. Holding a South Korean flag she brought herself, Amanda said, "I love all the BTS members, including Jin," and mentioned that three more friends were expected to join her.

Maëva, 34, who arrived at the Louvre at 10 AM, said, "BTS symbolizes peace and solidarity, so I think Jin being chosen as a torchbearer aligns with the Olympic values. It’s such an honor as a fan."

Jin, with a shy smile, waved to his fans, acknowledging their love and support.

Escorted by police, he then moved to Rue de Rivoli, a nearby street, and was handed the torch. He ran about 200 meters before returning it to the torch relay center at the museum.
