Batman The Animated Series sets a tone from the very opening beat. I can’t think of another animated tv series more successful in letting you know straight away what exactly you’re getting into. With DC's movie universe expanding with The Batman 2021 starring Robert Pattison, it's interesting to see where these dark moods stem from.

Following the success of Tim Burton’s Batman in 1989 and the darker return in the comics, the stage was set for a dark Batman animated series. But no one could have predicted just how beautifully crafted and lovingly made the show would be. Even still I occasionally watch the opening titles just to remind myself how phenomenal the show is at creating an atmosphere.

But how did they go about setting that tone? Well that’s what I aim to find out here.

Incidentally, I was also offered a product to review. They sent it to me for free in the promise I’d review it here, so I’m happy to say I really really fell in love with the Screen bar, and not just because it was gifted to me. I’ve been using it for a month now and I love it. I have the ScreenBar with the Desktop Dial, so it retails higher, but there are two other models that are more reasonably priced I think.
