@Hematology Room.. National Children’s Hospital Quezon City
Posted with parents’ permission.
These kids have Thalasemia. Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder in which the body makes an abnormal form of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is the protein molecule in red blood cells that carries oxygen. The disorder results in excessive destruction of red blood cells, which leads to anemia. These patients have been seeing each other monthly because they all need to be transfused with blood, around 3-5 bags a month...forever!!! Meaning life long. Each patient spends around 60K a month even if they are admitted in a government hospital. Because of the frequent transfusion, patient suffer from the consequence of iron overload so they still have to go through chelation (removal of iron). Sad that there are no local foundations that can help them...so monthly they ask for funds from politicians and govt agencies. 😭 There are other kids with blood disorders like factor 5 deficiency & leukemia too.

The kids were so happy with their brand new clothes from Oshkosh and toys and Jollibee food from Cinderella Marketing Corporation. Thank you to the Coronel Family: Therese Coronel-Santos, Richie Coronel Santos, Janet Coronel, Malou Coronel De Venecia for your kindness and generosity. ❤️ Thank you Arielle Leviste and Miguela Isabelle Puyat for your Mask Malasakit masks.
