The different coaching yards serving trains that terminate at CST station can also be seen. Towards the end, the rake of the prestigious train, Deccan Queen Express, is being shunted into the station for its departure.

Mumbai CST was earlier known as Bombay VT and people still refer it by the latter name. It is the oldest train station in India along with Thane, and the first train in India was run from this station to Thane. Mumbai CST has 16 platforms, with Platforms 1 to 7 serving the local trains while 8 to 16 serve long distance outstation trains. Platforms 1 and 2 are for Harbour Line services while 3 through 7 are for Central Railway mainline services.
