While trying to finish that backlog, I asked myself: is turn based combat truly outdated? This has been a question asked on and off for years. When discussing classic Final Fantasy and its turn based combat outdated is a popular term to use. Some people overlook the flaws and structure of a turn based RPG and praise how turn based combat changed gaming; it defined a generation of gaming and introduced a gameplay style where the player had time to use their brain for clever strategies. Meanwhile, others not only say that turn based combat is outdated but also that turn based RPGs are boring; the rise of action games has encouraged equally intuitive gameplay faster. Obviously, the answer is up to the player, the turn based RPG, and what the player thinks of the turn based RPG, but Final Fantasy 4 is considered one of the greatest and most revolutionary turn based games of all time, especially for the Final Fantasy series. Now, thanks to the releases of the final fantasy pixel remaster series, I thought that it would be a good time to give something of a Final Fantasy 4 retrospective to see if turn based combat is truly outdated. However, I will not be playing the Final Fantasy iv pixel remaster, but instead, I will be playing the PSP version of Final Fantasy 4.

Is turn based combat truly outdated? Personally, I don't think that calling turn based combat outdated is a fair judgment. However, I do feel that there are some aspects that can make a case for calling turn based combat outdated.
