This project was given to me by a friend looking for an auction item for a Boy Scout fundraiser. Since he's my friend, golfing buddy and also boss, I thought I would oblige.

The wood is Cypress. The blank is 8/4 thick and 11 1/4" in diameter. Leftover from a door unit I fabricated. It finished at 1 3/4" thick by 11".

The method is Shou Sugi Ban. I burn the outside and color it with Rit dye, Orange in color.

The finish is a mixture I made of wax and solvents made to make it dry hard and fast, but last. An experiment in progress.

Be safe. I'm not an instructor, just a hobbyist Use the tools you're comfortable with. Be wary of the spinning object in front of you. Don't push the tools limitations.
