In this video, Vladimir London, a Life Drawing Academy tutor, demonstrates how to draw a female figure standing in contrapposto. The contrapposto pose is one of classical stances when a figure stand with almost all the body weight is supported by one leg and another leg helps to keep balance. In such a pose, the axes of pelvis and shoulders are tilted in opposite directions to each other. In this drawing drawing, you can see the the axis of pelvis is not horizontal, but sloped, so is the axis of shoulders. There are many other key-features of such a pose. For example, the vertical projection of the pit of the neck points to the ground in the supporting leg footprint. Also, the spine is curved because of difference in tilts of pelvis and shoulders and the relaxed leg is bent at the knee because the distance to the ground is shorter than for the other leg. Such features are very characteristic to the contrapposto and an artist must know how to draw such poses from various angles of view. This is what you will learn in the Life Drawing Academy course in multiple video lessons.
