The “Dampf am alten Hauenstein” event is a special steam train ride organized by SBB Historic. It offers participants the opportunity to experience an atypical commuter line: the old Hauenstein.

In the past, this route was mainly used by leading locomotives, which were needed for heavy freight trains. They drove up the mountain and back down to the turntable in Sissach.

The C 5/6 2978, affectionately known as the “Elephant”, is an impressive historic steam locomotive that was built in 1917 and is considered to be the last of its kind for the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). Today, it is a valuable piece of railroad history and is used for special trips, such as the “Dampf am alten Hauenstein” event.
