Getting the new engine ready to run. Ran into a couple of problems, First start was rough due to not connecting the PCV and #8 injector was unplugged, and a pretty nasty fuel leak. After chasing the few problems that I had, I started to notice a pretty nasty intake backfire, noting a lean condition. I had to replace my wideband as a troubleshooting measure, however the truck starting playing nice. Turned out to be a failing fuel injector, which is likely what caused the death of the previous engine. I was running timing on the razors edge of preignition, and a lean mixture will detonate as compared to a rich mixture. Preigniton WILL kill an engine, usually a rod bearing, but wrist pin damage is 2nd if the rod bearing is stout. Lessons learned.
