Teachers' Day is celebrated to honor and appreciate the significant role that teachers play in shaping individuals and society. The origin of Teachers' Day varies across different countries, with each nation celebrating it on different dates to commemorate the contributions of its educators.

In many parts of the world, Teachers' Day is celebrated on October 5, which was established by UNESCO in 1994 as World Teachers' Day. This date marks the anniversary of the signing of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the status of teaSchers, which sets standards for the rights and responsibilities of teachers.

In India, Teachers' Day is celebrated on September 5, in honor of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a philosopher, scholar, and the second President of India. When Dr. Radhakrishnan became the president, some of his students and friends approached him with a request to celebrate his birthday. He responded by suggesting that instead of celebrating his birthday, they honor all teachers on that day. Since then, September 5 has been celebrated as Teachers' Day in India to acknowledge the contribution of teachers to society.

In the United States, National Teacher Appreciation Day is observed on the first Tuesday of May, and Teacher Appreciation Week is celebrated in the first full week of May.

The concept of Teachers' Day reflects the universal recognition of the pivotal role educators play in nurturing young minds, building futures, and contributing to societal progress.
