VN24 - 06-05-2024 (D/M/Y) - Unna / Germany - Horror accident on the A1 Freeway near Unna. At around 08:54 in the morning, a semitrailer truck loaded with peat crashed into the low-loader in front of it at the end of a traffic jam in the southbound direction between the Kamen-Zentrum and Unna junctions, throwing the 6.6-ton (14550 lbs) road roller (Bomag BW177 D) loaded there and secured with heavy chains off the loading area to the right. The vehicles were thrown forward and hit the rear of a tank truck, the trailer of which broke off to the left and the trucks skidded across all three lanes to the left. The 59-year-old driver of the Semitrailer was airlifted to hospital by a rescue helicopter. He was seriously injured, but not life-threatening. The 49-year-old driver of the low-loader sustained minor injuries. The driver of the tank truck was uninjured. It took about 10 hours to recover the wreckage with a crane. Afterwards, the highway had to remain closed for another two days in order to completely renew the road surface at the site of the accident.
