The planing stop is one of the simplest and yet most effective and easy-to-use accessories to a hand tool woodworker's bench. If you plan to do much hand-planing, a planing stop/bench hook of some kind is a must. There are many simple and easy ways to have some sort of stop, but in this video we forge a planing stop inspired by Roubo's 18th-century work "L'art du Menusier" or "The Art of the Carpenter/Cabinetmaker", and then dress it up a bit with some filed embellishment inspired by some of the "brightwork" of the period.
