Akiu district, Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture.

It is located in the upper reaches of the Natori and Hirose rivers that flow through the Sendai Plain.

This place is the entrance to Saikoji Temple in Futakuchi Gorge, a prefectural natural park.
At the back of Saikoji Temple, there is a beautiful direct waterfall with a width of 6m and a drop of 55m.

"Akiu Otaki" is designated as a national scenic spot and is counted as one of Japan's top 100 waterfalls.

In fact, Akiu Otaki is said to be one of Japan's top three waterfalls.
In general, two of the three, "Kegon Falls" and "Nachi Falls", are unshakable.
However, there are several candidates for the last waterfall.
One of them is Akiu Otaki.

The waterfall itself is impressive, but in autumn, the scenery becomes even more beautiful with the surrounding autumn leaves.

Although it may vary depending on the weather conditions, the best time to see the autumn leaves is usually from mid-October to early November.

The adjoining Akiu Otaki Fudoson is the 29th temple of the Tohoku 36 Fudo Sacred Sites and the 26th temple of the Michinoku Pilgrimage.

In the precincts, there is a ginkgo tree designated as a preserved tree of the city, which turns bright golden in autumn.

The autumn leaves of Japan's "Tohoku region" are beautiful everywhere.
