It’s a mountain pass bordering himachal and JandK which was recently opened for daily commute between zanskar to darcha, This pass may be considered as an entry point to Lugnak Valley in Zanskar. The base camp for crossing the pass are set up at Ramjak or Chumik Nakpo from Darcha side and Lakong from Padum side.
A rudimentary road to Shingo La was first constructed in 2016.The road was extended to Lakong above the Kurgiakh-Chu in 2017 and a very rough extension to the village of Kurgiakh was made by bulldozers and towed dump trucks in 2018.First successful attempt was made In 2019 to reach from darcha to padum,
Interesting fact
The construction of the road was first started by a 73-year-old Buddhist monk Chuldim Chhunjhor, known as "Dashrath Manjhi" of Lahaul valley with his own jcb bought from his life savings . Chhunjhor took two decades to persuade the local people about importance of the road and with little resources in hand, started this mammoth task. As the saying goes “where there is a will there is a way", the ministry of defense formed a Kargil Review committee after the Kargil conflict which conceptualized an alternate road connectivity from Himachal Pradesh side to Leh and Kargil in 2001. By the time the project was entrusted in 2007, Lama Chhunjhor had already traced the road up to Shinkula Pass. Afterwards, with the help of more than 10 kms tracings done by Lama Chhunjhor, BRO successfully completed the near impossible road till Shinkula Pass and finally on September 19 the Lahaul valley was linked with Zanskar. Recalling this Herculean task, Lama Chhunjhor told PTI that inspite of Independence, more than 15 villages of Zanskar valley were forced to walk 5-6 days in the inhospitable conditions trekking past highest passes to reach Leh or Manali. He said that students, patients and old people who had to pass through this ordeal every time suffered the most. "They had to reach their destination and it was the plight of these people which motivated me to connect this part of the Zanskar valley with Himachal for better road connectivity” lama ended,

He is the most respected human in padum and Zanskar
