The Sea to Sky Gondola opened to the public in 2014; a 25 million dollar project said to increase tourism and business in Squamish. This project aligned with the city’s theme as the “outdoor recreation capital of Canada” and it was determined the that environmental impact would be minimal.

Tickets are a little bit pricey (even mores when you wait until you arrive on site to purchase), but a day at the gondola is always a good day. Locals or those who plan to make multiple visits throughout the year should consider an annual pass - that’s what we did! It’s the cost of 2.5 visits and very much worth it given the variety of activities and events offered. Annual pass holders also receive special perks and discounts on merchandise, extra tickets for friends and food - bonus!

The adventure begins with a thrilling 10 minute ride up to the main chalet, sitting at 885m above sea level. Each gondola features a level entry/ exit, making it stroller and wheelchair accessible. The floor to ceiling glass allows for amazing views of Shannon Falls, the iconic Stawamus Chief and the mountains surrounding Howe Sound. Once you reach the top - adventure is endless! This attraction is multi-seasonal and there’s something to do at any time of year. You’ll have access to many outdoor experiences, including the suspension bridge (which is 100m long!), two interpretive walking trails, viewing platforms with spectacular views, hiking/ snow shoeing trails, tubing, rock climbing, backcountry routes and much more! For the purposes of this video, I’m going to focus on winter activities, but stay tuned for a summer version later on this year!

Winter brings a ton of precipitation to the West Coast mountains given its moderate coastal climate. Temperatures usually hover around 3C and an average of 235cm falls, per year! There’s usually a lot of rain at sea level, but also big powder days in the mountains, offering many fun ways to enjoy the outdoors. A day at the Sea to Sky gondola is a great way to explore some of those activities!

A ticket for tubing costs 5$, but make sure to come on Fun Friday’s - kids ride for free all day long!

Daily guided snow shoe tours are offered both in the early afternoon as well as at sunset. There’s always something going on at the gondola.

Make sure to check out the onsite restaurants in the summit lodge. Sky Pilot Eatery has a market style menu for casual dining with an assortment of soups chilis and more - perfect cozy meals to warm your belly after a day outside.
Co-Pilot Cafe serves up delicious handcrafted beverages and will satisfy all of your coffee and pastry cravings. Those who enjoy a good brew are in luck - the Edge Bar serves up your favourite craft beers from local Squamish breweries and an assortment of ciders and wines.

For those looking for a special souvenir to remember their experience, there’s plenty to choose from in the summit gift shop.

The hours of operation vary between seasons, but it runs daily from 9-5 during the winter months. For those planning a trip from Vancouver, the Squamish Connector offers round-trip shuttle service directly from downtown, but make sure to call ahead as this service needs to be arranged in advance.

There’s something for everyone at the Sea to Sky Gondola!

Thanks for watching! Your continued support means the world to me.
