Have you ever wondered how to plan a track system for horses? In this video I set out a few things that I go out of my way to include and a few things which I avoid.

This should give you an idea of how to deal with a number of features within your horse's paddock to provide enrichment, mental stimulation and improve your horse's health and wellbeing.

Track systems are amazing for our horses. They encourage movement, which is very beneficial for our horses, they have evolved to travel long distances almost constantly. Restricting movement is what causes a lot of the health issues with our horses. Another cause is the rich, lush grasses which grows in the UK.

A track system restricts our horse's access to grass, instead they live on hay. Their bodies don't have to deal with high sugared grasses, so there is a lot less likelihood of laminitis and metabolic issues.

Not to mention our horses have less stress and have increased feeling of security. We have to deal with less 'highly strung' horses and bad behaviours.

So good all round!

Let me know in the comments whether there are other things you avoid or include in your track system. Let's share knowledge so that we can all do our best for our horses.
