A live, semi-improvised synthesizer jam performed entirely on hardware.

This piece started with some exploration in the DAW on my Patreon, making longer loops with some interesting textures and rhythmicity. Once I had some static loops, I exported them to the Octatrack to really bring them alive.

Usually when I'm working this way, I try not to be too complete with the loops, leaving myself something to do later. Here, I created the melody and some extra chords using the sequencer on the Octatrack, plus two hardware synths. I decided to use these more affordable synths because I hadn't touched them in a little while, and because I think they're underrated because of their price. The S-1 is a fantastic and versatile workhorse, and the Volca Keys has a surprising amount of character—I didn't even add external effects to it, here!

Finally, the Chroma Console was added to the S-1 to add some grit and texture, and I think it excels at that job.

Altogether, I'm really happy with this track, with its mix of in-the-box power and out-of-the-box performability. It felt like the perfect cap for the album I've been building. Please go give it a spin.

Thanks for listening.
