The score was written by Leonard Bernstein with lyrics by Stephen Walter plays West Side Story selections "I Feel Pretty" and "Tonight"on the Lowrey Sondheim in the mid 1950's for the Broadway musical "West Side Story" and was brought to the screen in 1961 starring Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, Rita Moreno.
