Greenstone belts are generally elongate, Archaean to Paleoproterozoic terrains named for the green hue imparted by chlorite minerals within rocks which are variably metamorphosed mafic to ultramafic volcanic sequences associated with sedimentary rocks and occur between granite and gneiss bodies.
