🇬🇧Gustav Mahler's 5th Symphony was the favorite of my father José María, who had studied the percussion part in detail at the Teatro Colón under the guidance of one of the most emblematic percussionists in the history of the Theater, Maestro Antonio Yepes.

The great conductor Bruno Walter, a disciple of Gustav Mahler, comments on the 5th Symphony: "In the conversations I had with Mahler not a single note of the work seems to suggest that an extra-musical thought or emotion entered into the composition. We have here music and nothing more. Sometimes passionate, sometimes turbulent, heroic, exuberant, fiery solemn, or tender, it runs the full emotional gamut. But it's just music anyway. And not even remotely, no metaphysical matter gets mixed up in its purely musical course. "

My version is based on the recording that Gustav Mahler himself made on piano roll at the beginning of the 20th century. There are many details in the composer's performance that differ from the printed score. He add more dissonant notes, chords, lots of rhythmic changes, rubato, and a long list of little details. For me these recordings are very important. They were authorized and signed by Mahler himself.

El gran director Bruno Walter, discípulo de Gustav Mahler comenta sobre la 5ta Sinfonía: "En las conversaciones que tuve con Mahler ni una sola nota de la obra parece sugerir que un pensamiento o una emoción extramusical haya intervenido en la composición. Tenemos aquí música y nada más. Unas veces apasionada, otras turbulenta, heroica, exuberante, ardiente solemne o tierna, recorre toda la gama emotiva. Pero en todo caso es solo música. Y, ni siquiera remotamente, ninguna cuestión metafísica se mezcla en su curso puramente musical."

Mi versión está basada en la grabación que hiciera el propio Gustav Mahler en rollo de pianola a comienzos del siglo XX. Hay muchos detalles en la ejecución del compositor que difieren notablemente de la partitura impresa. Agrega notas, acordes más disonantes, muchos cambios rítmicos, rubato y un largo etcétera de pequeños detalles. Para mí estas grabaciones son muy imporantes como máxima referencia. Estaban autorizadas y firmadas por el propio Mahler.
