(Update: As of 4/6/19, this siren is confirmed to be at Blue Valley Public Safety's lot in Grain Valley. Another siren enthusiast, ShowMeSirens130 went there for some pictures and found the Jailbar there. Go check out his siren graveyard video if you want to see this siren in its current state. I must also add that the Thunderbolt 1000T heard in this video is actually located on a cell tower in Sugar Creek. The Thunderbolt at the power plant actually never ran at all despite the Jailbar Thunderbolt somehow still being active at the time.)

This video is rather late because I have been busy looking for work.

This Jailbar Thunderbolt is located at the intersection of E. Lexington St. and S. Liberty St. across the street from the Truman Historical Courthouse. This is my second attempt at recording this siren. I originally went and recorded this siren a few months back, but it did not activate. However during last months test, when I recorded the Federal Signal 2001 SRNB, which is located about 1 mile away, this Thunderbolt was heard loud and clear. Now knowing that the siren was active again, I decided to pay another visit to this siren. This was going to be the first time I would hear a Thunderbolt up close in person but apparently this siren had other ideas. I believe the problem with it is that the siren motor either has bad wiring or needs new brushes, or maybe even a problem with the siren panel.

Update 3/8/16: I told Emergency Management about the siren failure and they checked it out. I thought that they would repair it but a few days later, I was surprised to hear that they scheduled the siren to be replaced.

It's sad to see it go but I feel that it has probably run its course. I believe this siren has done its job in its years of service of warning the residents in the Downtown Independence area of bad weather and all the tornado warnings it has participated in.

I am not sure what siren will take its place but I will find out within a month or so and eventually do a video of it. Enjoy the video!

(Update 5/2/17) This siren has now been replaced by a Federal Signal DSA electronic siren. You can check out my Thunderbolt siren update video if you would like to see the new siren.

Other sirens heard in this video:
Federal Signal 2001 SRNB (less than 1/4 mile away)
Federal Signal Modulator 2008 (about 1/2 mile away)
Federal Signal Thunderbolt 1000T (about 3 miles away)
